LOCATION - Lat 44°53'12.59", long 89°38'08.69" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.26, T.28 N., R.7 E., Marathon County, WI, Hydrologic Unit 07070002, (Previously published coordinates:Lat 44°53'09", long 89°38'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1927), On the right bank at Rothschild, 0.5 mi downstream from Rothschild Dam, 1.7 mi north of bridge on U.S. Highway 51, 2.0 mi downstream from Eau Claire River, 5.0 mi upstream from Black Creek, and 200 feet upstream of pedestrian bridge.
DRAINAGE AREA - 4,020 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1944 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. On July 8, 2007 the original base gage was discontinued and replaced with a water-stage recorder and velocity meter on the right bank approximately 150 feet upstream of the pedestrian bridge. Datum of gage is 1,125.97 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Oct. 1, 1975, at datum 10.00 ft higher. Auxiliary water-stage recorder in Mosinee Pond 8 mi downstream. Auxiliary gage discontinued September 30, 2008. Prior to July 23, 1964, nonrecording auxiliary gage at same site and datum, read hourly. On October 03, 2018, the velocity meter was discontinued and the auxiliary gage was restarted at Mosinee.
REMARKS - Records are considered good except for estimated daily discharges which are poor and other periods as noted. For records status prior to October 1, 2013, see remarks printed in annual water-data reports.
12/07/2013-04/04/2014, 01/10/2016-03/08/2016, 07/16/2018-10/02/2018: Records fair when the stage/discharge rating was used and the stage was below 16.2 ft. July 19, 2017 to August 03, 2017:Records poor due to a faulty thermistor in the velocity meter. Flow regulated by 20 reservoirs and 12 power plants above station. Gage-height telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Sept. 1, 1941, reached stage of 22.3 ft, datum then in use, from tailwater data at Rothschild dam, discharge, 75,000 ft³/s from rating curve extended above 45,000 ft³/s.
