LOCATION - Lat 42°05'00.07", long 90°37'58.5" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.17, T.84 N., R.3 E., Jackson County, IA, Hydrologic Unit 07060006, on right bank 10 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 62, 2.0 mi northeast of Maquoketa, 900 ft upstream from Prairie Creek, 2.2 mi downstream from North Fork Maquoketa River, and 27.6 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,553 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 405: 1914. WSP 1438: Drainage area. WSP 1508: 1914-1917, 1919-1925, 1926(M), 1929, 1933-1934(M), 1943.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge records from September 1913 to current year. Prior to October 1939, published as "below North Fork near Maquoketa". Prior to October 1930, monthly mean discharge for some periods published in WSP 1308.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 625.63 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to July 14, 1924, non-recording gage; prior to October 1, 1972, at site 300 ft upstream from bridge on State Highway 62 at datum 10.00 ft higher.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records is discussed in the annual Station Analysis archived at the USGS IA Water Science Center.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - A flood, probably in 1903, reached a stage of 23.5 ft, discharge 43,200 ft³/s, at datum in use prior to October 1, 1972.
