LOCATION - Lat 38°55'04", long 104°49'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.18, T.13 S., R.66 W., El Paso County, CO, Hydrologic Unit 11020003, near middle of span on downstream side of pedestrian bridge 0.1 mi west of Interstate 25 at Pikeview, 0.9 mi downstream from Cottonwood Creek, and 1.3 mi downstream from Woodmen Road.
DRAINAGE AREA - 203 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR CO-90-1: 1989 (M). WDR-US-2011: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1938 to September 1949, January 1976 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 6,203.26 ft above NGVD of 1929. Oct. 1938 to Sept. 1949, nonrecording gage on right bank at datum 2.10 ft higher. Jan. 1976 to June 6, 1994, at site on right bank at datum 2.00 ft higher. June 7, 1994 to July 24, 2012, at site on right bank at same datum. (Aug. 14, 2002 to Sept. 2007, supplementary gage on left bank 15 ft downstream at same datum).
REMARKS - Water year 2014; records fair except for flows above 200 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2015; records fair except for flows above 200 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2016; records fair except for flows above 200 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2017; records fair except for flows above 200 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Natural flow of stream affected by storage reservoirs, transmountain diversions, diversions for irrigation and municipal use, groundwater withdrawals, return flows from irrigated areas, and flows from sewage-treatment plants.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of May 30, 1935, reached a stage of about 14 ft, former datum, discharge unknown.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 5,230 ft³/s, Aug. 4, 2004, from rating curve extended above 4,890 ft³/s, gage height, 11.24 ft, from floodmarks.
