LOCATION - Lat 32°44'36.41", long 104°24'50.87" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Eddy County, NM, Hydrologic Unit 13060010, on left bank 1.2 mi upstream from U.S. Highway 285, 1.9 mi northwest of old Dayton railway station, 5.6 mi upstream from mouth, and 7.0 mi south of Artesia. Mouth at Pecos River mile 496.4.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry, rock and concrete control, and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 3387.04 ft above NAVD88 as determined by a GNSS Level II rapid-static survey performed by the USGS on June 16, 2020. Prior to May 9, 1968, at site 2.4 mi downstream, at datum 44.30 ft lower. May 9, 1968, to June 12, 1975, at present site at datum 1.98 ft higher.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of about Sept. 22, 1941, reached a stage of about 9 ft, from floodmark, previous site and datum, discharge not determined. Peak discharge at discontinued station "near Dunken" (station 08397600), about 60 mi upstream, was 70,000 ft³/s, determined in 1956, from rating curve extended above a slope-area measurement of 36,000 ft³/s, for peak of Oct. 6 or 7, 1954.
