LOCATION - Lat 34°55'27.80", long 110°31'44.15" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 SE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.27, T.18 N., R.17 E., Navajo County, AZ, Hydrologic Unit 15020010, in SE1/4 SW1/4 sec. 27, T. 18N., R. 17 E, Navajo County, Hydrologic Unit 15020010, 2 miles above small diversion dam, 3 miles above mouth, 14 miles southwest of Winslow, and 500 feet on right bank downstream of bridge.
DRAINAGE AREA - 785 mi² of which 4 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Formerly published as Chevelon Fork near Winslow. Dec. 1905 to Dec. 1906, Jan. 1907 t Dec. 1908 (gage heights only), Dec. 1915 to Dec. 1919, Mar. 1929 to Feb. 1934, Sept. 1935 to Sept. 1972, July 2005 to current.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 4,889.5 ft above sea level. Prior to Dec. 12, 1908, water-stage recorder at site 1 mile upstream at different datum. Dec. 18, 1915 t Dec. 5, 1919, water-stage recorder, and Mar. 30 to July 2, 1929, non-recording gage at site 500 ft downstream at different datum.
REMARKS - Records fair. Storage and regulation by Chevelon Canyon Lake (capacity 6,193 acre-ft) 57 mi upstream since June 1967. No known diversion above station. Chevelon Canal diverts 2 miles downstream from the station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 25,300 ft³/s Jan. 19, 1952, gage height 19.8 ft, from rating curve extended above 2,700 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow; minimum, about 1 ft³/s at times in each of several years.
