LOCATION - Lat 37°12'08", long 76°34'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Newport News City, VA, Hydrologic Unit 02080206, 0.4 mi southeast of the intersection of State Highways 143 and 238 and 150 ft north of State Highway 143 in Newport News. Owner: Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
REVISIONS HISTORY - Water level record for periods July 3 to Aug. 14, 1988 and Apr. 15, 1993 to May 30, 1996 and July 21, 2009 to Apr. 10, 2013 have been revised, superseding those published in Annual Data Reports 1988, 1993-96, and 2009-12.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 1,236 ft. Upper casing diameter 4 in; top of first opening 1,205 ft, bottom of last opening 1,215 ft.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 55 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF CASING, 1.85 ft above land-surface datum, Apr. 14, 1993 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1984 to May 2013 (temporarily discontinued). Unpublished records available prior to October 1986 in files of the USGS.
GAGE - Electronic data logger and pressure transducer, 15-minute record interval. Prior to May 8, 1997, digital recorder, 60-minute record interval.
COOPERATION - Records provided by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division.
REMARKS - Well is located in Lower Potomac aquifer of Cretaceous age. Water level affected by regional drawdown, nearby pumpage, and occasional pumpage for water-quality sampling. Water from this well is known to contain concentrations of dissolved solids greater than 1,000 mg/L.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level recorded, 103.64 ft below land-surface datum, Mar. 31, 2013 and Apr. 1, 2, 3, 2013; lowest recorded, 159.26 ft below land-surface datum, Mar. 6, 2008.
