LOCATION - Lat 37°12'08", long 76°34'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Newport News City, VA, Hydrologic Unit 02080206, 0.4 mi southeast of the intersection of State Highways 143 and 238 and 150 ft north of State Highway 143 in Newport News. Owner: Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 60 ft. Upper casing diameter 4 in; top of first opening 50 ft, bottom of last opening 60 ft. Drilled observation water well, screened 50 to 60 ft.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 55 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF CASING, 2.90 ft above land-surface datum, Jun. 22, 1984 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1984 to current year. Unpublished records available prior to October 1986 in files of the USGS.
GAGE - Electronic data logger and pressure transducer, 15-minute record interval. Oct. 1, 1999 to March 23, 2007, occasional measurement with chalked tape by USGS and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division personnel. Prior to Oct. 1, 1999, digital recorder, 60-minute record interval.
REMARKS - Well is located in Cornwallis Cave aquifer of Pliocene-Pleistocene age. Records provided by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division. Water level affected by occasional pumpage for water-quality sampling.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level recorded, 21.66 ft below land-surface datum, Feb. 13, 2010; lowest measured, 29.90 ft below land-surface datum, Oct. 31, 2002.
