> Site Information
LOCATION.--Lat 43°01'00", long 74°44'27" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Herkimer County, NY, Hydrologic Unit 02020004, on right bank 1.2 mi upstream from mouth, and 3.5 mi northwest of St. Johnsville, at East Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA.--289 mi².
PERIOD OF RECORD.--December 1945 to March 1995, annual maximum only--1996, 1998, 2000, 2003-14, July 2014 to current year.
REVISIONS HISTORY.--WRD NY-85-1: Drainage area. Discharge for the period Nov. 2, 2019, to Dec. 19, 2019, was revised on Mar. 19, 2021, based on changes to the stage-discharge rating.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 335.70 ft above NGVD of 1929 and 335.16 ft above NAVD of 1988.
REMARKS.--Extensive diurnal fluctuation and slight regulation caused by powerplants upstream from station. City of Little Falls diverts about 5 ft³/s for municipal supply.
Water Years 2014-19: Records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are fair. Water Years 2020-23: Records fair except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 31,500 ft³/s, June 28, 2006, gage height, 10.99 ft, from rating curve extended above 11,000 ft³/s on basis of flow-over-dam measurement of peak flow; minimum discharge, 0.05 ft³/s, July 9, 1978, gage height, 0.47 ft; minimum gage height, 0.44 ft, July 29, 1977.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Flood of Oct. 2, 1945, reached a stage of 9.0 ft, from floodmarks, discharge, 24,000 ft³/s, from slope-area measurement of peak flow, result of dam failure.
