STATION.--MAHONING CREEK AT BIG RUN, PA
LOCATION.--Lat 40`57'53", long
78`52'46" referenced to North American Datum of 1983,
Jefferson County, PA, Huydrologic Unit 05010006, on right bank of
Mahoning Creek at bridge on Mill Rd 800 ft south of Rt 119 in Big Run,
PA
DRAINAGE AREA.--73.9 square miles
PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 2009 to current year.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage.
Datum of gage is 1266.89 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988
(from benchmark). Prior to August 30, 2024, the datum of gage was
erroneously reported as 1320 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum
of 1929.
COOPERATION.--Station established and maintained by
the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS.--Gage is operated as a stage-only site. Since
the site was established in October 2009, its location has been
incorrectly reported as "Indiana County". The site is
actually in Jefferson County. The GPS coordinates listed for the site
are correct.
